Midnight Oil Returns To The Road

Midnight Oil is back – and in a big way. The Australian alternative rock band has unveiled the routing for “The Great Circle 2017,” marking its first tour in 15 years. The world trek features more than 50 dates.

The band’s classic lineup is on board for the outing: Peter Garrett on lead vocals, Rob Hirst on drums and vocals, Martin Rotsey on guitar, Jim Moginie on guitar, keyboards and vocals, and Bones Hillman on bass and vocals.

Although it’s been quite a while since Midnight Oil’s last tour, the band should quickly feel right at home. After all, that’s how Midnight Oil made a name for itself, by putting in lots of time on the road and shunning TV shows like Australia’s “Countdown.”

The tour will kick off in mid-April in Sydney with an intimate local pub gig. Details will be announced closer to the date. Next is a run of gigs in Brazil, followed by a North American excursion. Midnight Oil heads to Europe in late June and will play its first gigs in New Zealand in 20 years in September. The band returns to Australia in October for 18 homecoming concerts – bringing the tour full circle.

During a press conference on Sydney Harbour today Midnight Oil announced that in addition to the tour, it would also be releasing The Full Tank, a remastered CD box set featuring all of its albums and EPs, along with a four CD/eight DVD collection called The Overflow Tank with 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material. Plus, the band is releasing its first-ever complete vinyl collection. The box collection is due out due out May 5 through Sony. Preorders are ongoing.
