Prisoner marks Adams’ 16th studio album.

A.V. Club writer Noel Murray gave the album an A- review. He writes, “Not since Easy Tiger, 10 years ago, has Adams made a record this focused and consistently tuneful. Prisoner belongs on the shortlist with Heartbreaker and Whiskeytown’s Pneumonia as the LP to hand to newcomers to explain what makes Ryan Adams special.”

NPR’s Stephen Thompson says, “Prisoner in many ways feels like a retreat: to self-reflection, to primal emotions, and to a tense, rootsy rock sound that recalls the mid- to late-’80s work of Bruce Springsteen.”

Adams was featured this week on NPR as a Valentine’s Day guest DJ, sharing his thoughts on songs by Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Smiths and Sonic Youth.

The singer/songwriter appears this evening on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
